Be flexible when choosing a pickup date. Don't set the moving day the same as the day you are to vacate your apartment or house and terminate your lease.
It is also a bad idea to make moving day the same day a cleaning crew is to start cleaning your quarters or pest control is to be done. Leave time to adjust to unforeseen problems.
Leave your phone and utilities connected until all property has been picked up.
Wehaul Moving suggests you do not schedule a move on the last day of the month due to that being the busiest time for movers. You should also schedule a 2-day pickup date which leaves some flexibility in case something goes wrong. Air Force Personal Property Counselors will also ask you for primary and alternate moving dates.
We cannot control the weather. Prepare yourself for alternate dates in case the weather prohibits pickup on the scheduled DITY Move Date.
A good DITY move depends largely on how prepared you are when the movers arrive.
