What is a DITY Move?
The Army DITY Move program offers a financial incentive to active duty army service members to do their own packing, crating and moving of household goods (HHG) and personal property. The army pays you 95 percent of they would have had to pay to move your property. There is a maximum authorized weight allowance based on rank and other issues. You have to take care of your moving arrangements and expenses.
If your total DITY move expenses are less than the DITY reimbursement the army gives you, you get to keep the difference. If you choose the best mover and do the packing yourself, you will have money left over to spend as you choose. Basically you are being paid for the time you took to handle the move yourself.

Any member of the Army is eligible for the Army Do-It-Yourself or DITY move program. Whether you are making a Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Temporary Duty (TDY), or Temporary Additional Duty (TAD) move, you are eligible. You are also eligible for the Army DITY Move Program if you are separating, retiring and moving to or from government quarters under orders. The Army DITY Move Program is voluntary.
With the Army DITY Move Program, you are entitled to travel allowances, per diem, and mileage through the government. You receive $25,000 in insurance coverage for your DITY Move. An advance pay allowance for your DITY move is available under certain circumstances. Ask your transportation office counselor for more details about the DITY Move benefits.
You Load/They Drive is the best DITY Move Choice - You pack and load a commercial moving van or truck and the moving company drives to your destination where you unload and unpack your property. The commercial mover must provide you with their ICC number and/or State and/or Federal Regulation numbers. This is sometimes called their DOT Number. You need to make sure the company is going to provide you with weight tickets as you will need them for Army DITY Move Reimbursement.
