These are the basic steps for your Navy DITY Move:
1. Contact your local TMO or JPPSO as soon as you get your orders.

3. Pack your HHG (Household Goods) and property.
4. Schedule the movers to pick everything up.
5. Travel to your new home or base.
6. Unload your belongings.
7. File for Reimbursement from the government.

DITY (Do It Yourself) Moves Now Called PPM (Personally Procured Move)
Navy personnel moving within the continental United States (CONUS) can now use SMARTWebMove (SWM) for Personally Procured Moves (PPM), previously called Do-It-Yourself (DITY) moves. SWM is Naval Supply Systems Command's (NAVSUP) online move counseling and application program.
Your Duties Before Movers Arrive
Electronics - Disconnect and pack all electronic devices and companents like stereos, cd and dvd players, printers and computers, tvs and VCRs.
Refrigerator - Empty, defrost, and clean the inside of your refrigerator and freezer at least twenty-four hours before the movers arrive. Don't forget the refrigerator bottom pan.
Appliances - Disconnect all appliances, washer hoses and dryer exhaust vents.
Electrical items - Disconnect and clean all electrical items. Wrap up cords so they can be packed or moved easily.
Unwanted Items - Dispose of unwanted items to reduce the weight of your DITY Move.
Consumables - Get rid of food and other consumables that may spill or spoil.
Your Walls - Take all pictures and mirrors down. Remove utensil and food racks from the walls. Take down curtains, curtain rods, and valances. Clean out your attic and other crawl spaces. Movers are not required to go into these areas.
PBP & E - Separate all professional books, papers, and equipment from the rest of your property. When listed properly on the inventory, professional books, paper and equipment. (PBP & E) are not counted as part of your weight allowance.
Separate Items that will not be moved by the movers - Pack clothing, toys, and other items that won't be moved with the rest of your HHG. Put them in a separate area of the house or into your personal vehicle. Protect valuables such as money and expensive jewelry, as well as other valuables and keepsakes not being shipped by the carrier on moving day. Lock them in the trunk of your car or other safe place not accessible to the carrier.
Pest Control - If needed, call a local pest control company to come in and exterminate your residence and household goods several days prior to the arrival of the movers and prior to packing your belongings.
Your household goods will not be picked up by the carrier if they are bug-infested. You are responsible for all expenses associated with an attempted pickup.
Propane Tanks - Dispose of propane tanks before the movers arrive.
Motorcycles - make sure the gas tank is empty and no oil is leaking. Disconnect the battery and secure the cables.
If you plan to put your motorcycle in storage, remove and dispose of the battery. You will need proof of ownership, like your registration describing the make, model, and vehicle identification number.
Dishes & Clothing - Make sure all dishes, clothing, bed linens, and other items are clean. Trash should be disposed of prior to the arrival of the movers.
